Mayor Perry to visit Norbury, 5th September:  Jason Perry, Croydon’s Executive Mayor will be holding a Question session at Norbury Baptist Church starting at 6.30pm (Doors open at 6pm).  Tickets are free and full details of the Mayor’s invitation are printed below.  Ann, one of the NVRA Committee has booked tickets and submitted a question on the missing bus shelters.  Do come along and submit your questions.  We will ask for a written response to those questions that are not taken at the meeting.

Missing Bus Shelters:  Most bus shelters are owned/manged by Transport for London.  Croydon owns/manages the rest.  These disappeared at the end of the contract in 2021 and have not been replaced.  The problem seems to be that the contract for the new bus shelters was won by a company which had never managed bus companies before.  The difficulties are with the company fulfilling the contract.  The Council is in negotiations with the but these appear to be long and tedious and with the likelihood that there will be no new bus shelters this winter.  It is disgraceful.  NVRA’s Committee has been pressing for a community meeting  so that officers and councillors can hear first hand the discomfort experienced by passengers, many of whom are elderly and/or disabled.  We understand that as a result of the mess, the Council is reviewing its procurement procedure. The Council has also reorganised the forums for cyclists and public transport into the Croydon Advisory Forum on Active, Sustainable and Accessible Transport. We have written to the Chair, Councillor Roche raising the issue of lack of bus shelters in Norbury and other parts of the Borough. Not much comfort, but we will continue to press on the issue.

MAYOR’S INVITATION

During my election campaign I committed to hosting ‘roadshows’ where local residents could come and both ask questions and hear from me directly. I want to be a visible and accountable Mayor for the people of Croydon, so hearing their views directly is very important to me.

In September I will be holding the third of my Mayor’s Question Time events aiming to give local people the chance to quiz me on my priorities and the council’s work. These events will be open to all local residents, allowing the opportunity to have a voice on the concerns that matter to them most.

This Croydon Mayor’s Question Time event will be held at Norbury Baptist Church in Norbury. Doors will open at 6.00pm and attendees will need to be seated by 6:20pm as we will be starting promptly at 6:30pm.

Register here for a free ticket. Those attending on the night without tickets will be admitted if spaces are available.

I would be grateful if you could share the attached flyer with your members, residents and other community groups to promote the event.

I look forward to seeing you there.

Yours sincerely

Jason Perry
