With the clocks going forward and plenty of daffodils, Spring is certainly on its way.  Going round our streets I hadn’t realised before just how many blossom trees there are.  And we could have more trees with blossom or without.  This Autumn, the Council will consider replacing trees that have been taken down.  Please let us know if there is an empty tree site near you nearest house number and street name is all that’s needed.

15% Council Tax Rise: Many of you will have received your Council Tax Bill for 2023-24 and know that the campaign to avoid the increase was unsuccessful.  This was in spite of a robust campaign and the presentation of a petition of more than 25,000 opposing the rise.

50 Bishops Park Road:  Some of you may remember that last Summer an application was turned down by the Council to demolish 50 Bishops Park Road and build a block of nine flats.  The developer decided to appeal the decision.  That appeal was opened on 30 March.  It is to be hoped it will be unsuccessful.  As NVRA and many residents said at the time, such a development is totally unsuitable to the residential nature of the area.

Potholes – small miracles:  Although Oakhill Road was very well resurfaced last year, the junction with Stanford Road was left in a poor state.  The potholes began to get wider and deeper.  The committee reported this to Cllr Griffiths who in turn spoke to the council officers.  Within two weeks the potholes were repaired!

Norbury Bowling Club:  NVRA Committee Member, Jeff Slough, invites you to find out more about Norbury’s very own, very friendly, Bowling Club.  It is situated in Turle Road, which is just off Abingdon Road and close to Norbury Manor School.  This year, the Club is working hard to recover from all the problems we faced during Covid, and is very keen to expand the Membership so that we can return to our former strength. The Year 2023 also marks our return to competitive Bowling. Our new Secretary has arranged many friendly matches with other Bowls Clubs, during the season. We are also proud members of “Love Norbury”, which is formed of four local Residents’ Associations, and other local groups. Our Poster will shortly be displayed in their notice boards.  The playing season starts after our Open Day, which will be held on Saturday 29TH April 2023 from 2pm. Why not come along to meet us. Experienced players are available to guide you on your way to your new healthy and enjoyable pastime. Social (non-playing) membership is also available.  Contact: Jeff Slough – Mobile 07523 576131

NVRA Annual General Meeting:  2pm Saturday 10 June at Harlow Hall, corner Stanford & Oakhill Roads.  With the Coronation and other bank holidays in May, it was decided to hold the AGM a little later this year.  Please consider whether you could help run NVRA.  It’s time for some fresh ideas and  new energy.  A couple of hours a month is all it takes.  If you’d like more information, please contact Ann – [email protected]; 07841 578565.  Come on, give it a go.

Membership 23-24:  The NVRA membership year runs from 1 May to 30 April.  23-24 Membership Cards will be available from 1 May.   Membership is   £5 a household and £2.50 if one of the household members is retired.  Payment can be made by cash or cheque and left in the porch at 6 Oakhill Road though do please knock if you have time).  You can pay at the AGM and the next newsletter will give bank details so that you can pay by bank transfer.

Committee Members: Jayne Elden; Ruth Heindl: Sean Creighton; Jeff Slough;  Ann Creighton; Mike Mogul.

You can contact the committee by email:  [email protected] or phone 07841 576585
